Article: Evaluation, Modification and Adaptation of an Airflow Test Method for Polyurethane Foams; Gummaraju, R V; Pask, R F; Koller, H J; Wujcik, S E; Reimann, K A; Journal Of Cellular Plastics. Vol. 37, no. 3, pp. 193-206. May 2001

Details of FAP-USH-1 - Universal Specimen Holder in which ASTM D3574 Insert is used.

See formulas at bottom of page.

Base Unit fits directly over test opening of Frazier Air Permeability Tester

Base Unit with Urethane Foam Sample - Sample size 50mm x 50mm by 25 mm high

Standard Frazier air flow results are given in:  cubic feet per minute per square feet of specimen (ft^3/min/ft^2) or (CF/M/SF) -or- feet per minute (ft/min) face velocity.

ASTM D3574 - Test G results are given in:  cubic feet per minute (ft^3/min) at 0.5 inches of water or 125 pascals

ASTM D3574 - Test G - area of test is 4.00 sq. in. -or- 0.0278 sq. ft.

Converting Frazier units to ASTM D3574 - Test G units:

Air Flow (ft^3/min) = Velocity (ft/min) x Area (ft^2)

Air Flow (ft^3/min) = Frazier Number (ft/min) x 0.0278 (ft^2)

Air Flow (meters^3/min) = 0.02832 x Air Flow (ft^3/min) at 125 pascals differential pressure

Example:

Air Flow (ft^3/min) = 35 (ft/min) x 0.0278 (ft^2)

Air Flow through 4 sq. in. of sample = 0.973 (ft^3/min)

Air Flow (meters^3/min) = 0.02832 x 0.973 (ft^3/min)

Air Flow through 2500 square millimeters (4 in^2) of sample = 0.276 (meters^3/min) at 125 pascals differential pressure

Note: These calculations are automatically calculated on Frazier 2000.
